ALCUDIA
Alcudia is a municipality located in the north of the island of Mallorca. It has about 20,000 inhabitants and a coastline of about 30 km. It is one of the most charming towns on the island. In its natural environment there are numerous coves with transparent waters surrounded by pine forests where some protected species such as the red crested pochard or European pond terrapin. As for the plants, there are some native species, such as the Juniper of the Bay of Alcudia. In its waters a variety of nautical sports can be practiced: sailing, surfing, kayaking, diving. On September 10, every year the open water swim takes place, where famous swimmers like David Mecca participate.
If you have the chance to visit Alcudia in June, July or October, you will have to chance to enjoy the local celebrations:
On June 29 Sant Pere is celebrated. Sant Pere is the patron of the fishermen. Processions by land and sea. In addition there are concerts, games for children and sports competitions.
At the end of July the celebrations of Sant Jaume take place in Alcudia, it is celebrated with concerts, festivals, bullfights, etc.
October 20 is the day of the Verges (of the virgins), the musicians, on behalf of parents, friends or boyfriends, sing serenades under the women´s balcony and they offer them bouquets and Mistela.
